George was born in Oshawa, Ontario to George A. and Gladys Weltz and later partnered with his father in a GM dealership in Trenton, Ontario. His father was a great inspiration to George throughout his life. The partnership in the car dealership was interrupted by a three-year stint in the Royal Canadian Air force in Germany. Just before departing for Germany, he married his fiancé Mary and so they were able to go together. While in Germany they became parents to twin baby boys. Little Jimmy was in ill health and passed away after one month. George and Mary returned home to Ontario, Canada with the remaining infant twin son, Jeffery in 1955.
George was involved with IBM as a service technician repairing bank machines and other large company machines. He also served for many years in sales, the latest being specialty plumbing supplies. A heart attack cut short his career and he took early retirement. He also established the Meadow Highlands Mobile Home Community in Pitt Meadows, BC.
George began his personal relationship with Jesus Christ as an adult in the early 1980s. His pastor Rev. Jim Gunzel, who also shared a duplex with the Weltzes, led him to the Lord.
His wife Mary suddenly passed away in 2000 of a stroke after a marriage of 46 years. At the end of 2002 he married Helena Hildebrandt. George and Helena celebrated 18 years of marriage on December 27, 2020.
George had a number of hobbies: he built model trains and model boats. He took great pride in constructing the boats to scale from scratch using household products to meticulously fashion the various parts. He also took up leather work and has made many well-crafted belts, bags and other items.
He served as a Gideon for many years and was involved in leadership and distribution of bibles. For a period of time, he served as Lay Volunteer Chaplain in Coquitlam, Burnaby, Maple Ridge and Abbotsford.
He was a member of Central Heights Church.
Mourning his passing and anticipating a reunion in glory are his wife Helena, son Jeff (Kim), granddaughters, Morgan and Joanna and great granddaughter Charly-Rae.
