It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad and papa.
Gary George Polowski Sr aged 72 passed away peacefully on Sunday October 24th 2021 with his family by his side.
Gary was born in Port Arthur, Ont. On November 1st 1948. He was a lifelong resident of Current River, where he spent many years and hours at the hockey rink, baseball diamonds, soccer fields and Strathcona Golf Course coaching and enjoying time with his kids. In his younger years Gary was dedicated and active playing hockey, curling and golfing with his friends. Gary was employed with Abitibi Provincial Papers, where he worked alongside his father Peter. Gary was employed with the mill for 28 years and then he went on to work at Cav-Tal foods and finally Safety net where he retired. Gary loved fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors camping with family and friends. Whenever a community member needed a hand he was always there to help. Gary and Brenda loved to travel with family and friends visiting new places and meeting new people. Gary could always tell you the best place eat and drink after all the places they travelled to. When the love of his life finally retired, you would find them on their beach at Obonga Lake where he made more friends and memories and would be seen with a caesar in his hand and a smile on his face. Nothing made him happier than spending his time in and on the lake with his 4 grand kids swimming, boating and quadding.
Gary leaves behind his true love of 48 years Brenda, His children Lyndy (Stephen) Gary Jr (Bumper) (Kelly) and his sister- in- law Heather, brothers- in- law Murdo Holmes (Pat) and family and Albert Holmes (Lori) and family, special cousin Arlene, sister- in- law Diane, Richard and Rae-Ann. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by his grandchildren Bryce, Byron, Alexa, Sophia and his 2 little buddies Daisy and Wylie. Gary leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Gary is predeceased by his parents Lilian and Peter and his brother Larry Polowski.
Cremation has taken place; due to Covid-19 restrictions a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
