Obituary of Fred Harry Harris
HARRIS , Fred Harry – age 83 of Oldham, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021 in Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Raymond and Muriel (Ineson) Harris.
Fred owned a sailboat and spent a lot of time sailing to Florida. With his passion for the ocean, he devoted his career around it by becoming a Marine Engineer in the Royal Canadian Navy. Fred had a beautiful voice and would sing for anyone who wanted to listen. He also loved to dance. Fred loved his cat and tinkering around his property. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his wife, Phyllis; 7 children from his previous marriage; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, James (Marjorie); mother-in-law, Isabelle Cole.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia; son, Fred James “Ted” and stepson, Derek Hines.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm Friday, September 3rd in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area.
Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the staff of both the Sagewood and the Magnolia for their care and compassion shown during Fred’s illness. A special thanks to Diana Thompson for her kindness.
