Obituary
Frederick ‘Carmon’ Cranswick Borden
December 29, 1947 – December 20, 2020
Frederick ‘Carmon’ Cranswick Borden, age 72, of Abbotsford, BC passed away on December 20, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 29, 1947 in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Bertram Sr. and Mary O’Neil (Desmond) Borden.
Born and raised on Reservoir Street the “Mountain”, he was a proud Nova Scotian. Carmon was a caring dog lover and also enjoyed “tinkering” on older vehicles. He was employed as a long haul truck driver, and loved to explore Canada from coast to coast for many years. Carmon lived his life to the fullest by the beat of his own drum. He was fun-loving and kind with a hearty laugh and a great smile that lit up any room.
He is survived by his children, Gary (Chantal Goudreau), Joseph “Joey” (Doreen MacFarlane), Curtis (Anna), Liam (Rachel), Quinlan (Zena), Terrell (Madison) and Iysha (Brayden) Blais and nine grandchildren, all of British Columbia. He leaves to mourn siblings, Ruth Paris, John, both of New Glasgow and Quenta (Earl) Clyke, James “Monte” (Lorraine) and Martha (Richard) Brown, all of Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews and his very good friend, Kenneth “Duke” Patterson. In addition, he is survived by his partner, Sherry Dileva and the mothers of his children, Karen Borden and Leslie Borden.
Carmon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Annie and brother, Joseph “Joe”.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses of Surrey Memorial Hospital (Surrey, BC), Mission Memorial Hospital (Hospice) (Mission, BC), Holmberg House Hospice (Abbotsford, BC). for their care and support.
Cremation has taken place by Amherst Funeral & Cremation Services in Vancouver, BC. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial family gathering will be held at an appropriate time in Coquitlam, BC. A family Graveside Service will be held at a later date in his hometown, New Glasgow.
Eulogy
By Gary Daley
My father, what can you say about him? He was an energetic loving man. He loved all his children and all his grandchildren loved him the way he played with them, wrestling and tickling. It was always fun when grandpa was around!
Carmon Borden kept his own council. He had two ways of doing things: his way or the wrong way. Papa was a rolling stone. He never stayed in one place too long from jobs (got to do your J.O.B) two wives hence the seven children. He liked working on cars and was always my go-to guy for car advice.
If you needed help he’d be there, telling you how to do it. Ask Curtis,if anything was ever wrong it’s because they didn’t listen. He loved to party – I think it was very important to dad to have fun. Something we can all take a little lesson from.
We love you dad, we miss you and we will remember you always.
Remembering My Uncle Carmon
Goodbye for now to Uncle Carmon, a man of character. As a kid, I remember Carmon teaching me how to ride an adult bike, although only with limited success. But what it showed me from a young age was that Carmon was fearless and would always watch out for me. When I was a teenager, Carmon knew I loved music and he bought me my first album. As I grew older, I followed his exercise routine faithfully which led me to play lots of sports even to this day.
I would describe Carmon as one of my favourite people – as an uncle/brother because he was Caring, Active, Real, Mighty, Open and Nice. He would do anything for his family and he loved to have fun. In our last conversation, I told him that he had more hair than me
He, Uncle Joe, and I partied together many times over the years, always respecting each other and displaying genuine love. In between we had many heartfelt discussions on family, sports, life and raising children.
We will truly miss Carmon as an uncle, brother, father, husband, colleague and friend because he was constantly smiling even in the most challenging times. His fearless nature was with him right to the end. All of us will cherish his memory. Sending our love to all of Carmon’s children and loved ones at this sad time.
As a family, we deeply wish that times were different and we could all be there to comfort each other.
Please know that our love and prayers are with you in this time of need.
Love,
Cousin Rick, Marina and family
