“Those we love don’t go away; they sit beside us every day.”
– Liane Moriarty
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, papa on August 31, 2021. He is survived by loving wife of nearly 66 years, Elizabeth; his children – David, Nancy (Mike), Annette (Ron), Sharon (Danny), and Frankie (Sue); and many grandchildren – Michelle, Jason, Atara, Nicholas, Melissa, Miranda, Kari, Tara, Sean; and great-grandchildren – Liam, William, Halle, Asher, Stella, Harper.
Frank was born in Tczew, Poland and immigrated to Canada in August 1951, landing at Pier 21, Halifax. He went on to serve in the Royal Canadian Navy for 23 years. Upon retirement, he held a supervisory position at Canada Post until 1989. He always had a passion for life-long learning – mastering four languages; attending St. Mary’s University as a mature student, where he graduated in 2000 with a BA; and singing and dancing as an active member of the Polish St. Faustina Mission in Dartmouth.
Frank and Elizabeth loved adventure, whether traveling across Canada or internationally. They also shared many happy times dancing. They were life-long members of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Dartmouth.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for the care and love they have shown Frank and Elizabeth. He was very happy there, especially when he was sharing stories with the staff of his life-long adventures. He inspired those he loved to live life to the fullest.
As per his wishers, cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place on September 10, 2021. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca and contributions made to a charity of your choice in remembrance of his life.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Frank Stanley Wanke November 18 1927 August 31 2021..
