Frank J.’s Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Frank Joseph Dechant on October 12, 2020 in Peace River, AB.
Frank was born Mar 19,1924, to John and Anna Dechant in Friedenstal, AB.
When he was a young boy the family moved to a farm in the North Star area and as he grew up, Frank became an integral part of the Battle River community. Frank’s first business was a John Deere dealership and then in 1967 he became the franchisee of a Chrysler dealership known as
MacKenway Sales and Service. Frank served on the Manning Town Council from 1952 to 1955and was Mayor for a time. He was active serving on many boards including the School Boardand the Knights of Columbus.
Frank married Esther on Nov 30,1950 and they shared 58 years together until Esther passed away in June of 2008. Frank had five children; daughter, Delores (Ursulan) Wilson and son, Gerald Ursulan both predeceased. He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Rick) Dundas,
Bernadine (Doug) Cooper and Stephanie (Robert) Lazar. Frank also had 11 grandchildren: Dana, Garrett, Jordan, Cory, Tara, Rick, Kelsi, Matthew, Megan, Aidan and Katharine along with nine great grandchildren : Gavin, Trent, Jesse, Cole, Liam, Sophie, Denira, Grady and Hudson. Frank came from a family of 10 children and he is survived by his sister Katie Dillman.
Frank loved a good road trip and he was so fortunate to maintain his drivers license right to the end. Frank loved to meet new people and hear their stories. In September 2014 he moved to the Garden Court apartments in Peace River where he found a welcoming and supportive
community. His last year at Heritage Tower was a challenging one due to Covid but Frank, true to form made the best of it.
A Memorial Service will be held from St. James the Major Church in Manning, on Saturday, August 28 at 1:00 PM with interment to follow at the Notikewin Cemetery.
