Obituary for Frances Mary Rodriguez
RODRIGUEZ, FRANCES MARY (nee BERESFORD)
It is with great sadness that the family of Frances announces her passing with her 4 children by her side, at Belmont House, on September 30th. Frances was predeceased by her husband Carlos Rodriguez Villegas (1977). Born in Bolivia in 1928, she lived in England, Mexico, Peru and Canada. She obtained her ESL Teacher Certificate at Glendon College. She worked as an ESL Teacher, Canadian Citizenship and Heritage Languages Instructor for both the Toronto Separate and the Toronto Public School Boards. She also taught Spanish at Ryerson’s Life Institute. Frances was passionate about education and played a positive and transformative role in the lives of her students. She was also well known for her love of music and her unparalleled ability to get people on the dance floor. At 70 she retired and became a “Snowbird” travelling to Peru to enjoy the beach and activities/parties at her “Club de Regatas Lima”. When back in Toronto, she enjoyed working as a volunteer for the Toronto Jazz Festival, Seniors for Seniors Organization and was a very active member of the West-Way Dance Club in Etobicoke.
In 2017 she moved to Belmont House where she enjoyed concerts, dancing, creating art, her wine at the “Happy Hour” and the care of all the loving and fabulous staff. We are very thankful to the Belmont House staff for the amazing care and support given to our mother and to us. We are equally thankful to the WISE team at Women’s College Hospital and the Dixon Hall Day Program for the support given to Frances and the family while she lived independently at the Brewin Housing Coop.
She will be deeply missed by her four children, nine grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her brother, sister/brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and her many relatives and friends.
