Obituary
On June 30th, Otahkoikannikisoyi was called to heaven and was reunited with his wife, Mavis. He leaves behind his daughters; Florene (Noran), Carolyn (Edwin), Dora (Ritchie), Vivian (Dean) and his son Kelly Whitney. The grandchildren he raised; Nikki (Gary), Cameron and Jayme. His sisters Beverly Runner and Flora (Larry) Whitney. Together Floyd and Mavis had 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews that he cherished. His special nieces Randa (Cody) Wright, Esther Majoros and his godson Ryan Running Rabbit.
Floyd was predeceased by his wife Mavis Running Rabbit, his parents Jack and Mary Running Rabbit. His sister Leona Cutter, Doreen Scown and Marlene Flammond. His grandsons Darren and Zaine. His aunties Cecile Many Guns and Cecilia Many Heads. His nephews Rick Running Rabbit, Richard Whitney, Cary Runner and his brother in law Tom Runner. And many others who have passed on.
Floyd graduated from Mount Royal in 1975 with his degree in Social Work. He worked for Atco Industries, Indian Affairs and Siksika Family Services. He took great pride in helping the people of Siksika and was always proud of his clients. He always reminded them to try hard. After 30 years of service, he retired in 2012. In his younger years, he was known to always be with his horses. Him and Mavis raised their children in Calgary and later settled in Siksika. One of Floyd’s many accomplishments was being the rector of the 1991 Cursillo. He was a devoted Catholic and was honoured to be selected. Floyd loved listening to country, gospel and powwow music. His favourites were George Jones and Gordo Horn. Floyd loved supporting his grandchildren in hockey, rodeo, horse racing and graduations. His favourite things to do was visit, talk on the phone, drop off snacks for his grandchildren and being humorous. He never said goodbye on the phone, he would just hang up on you. Floyd had many accomplishments and was always proud of his family. He had many friends from Siksika, Kainai, Tsuu Tina and Browning Montana. Floyd will always be remembered for his dedication, generosity and the love he had for his daughters, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sisters, his nieces, his nephews and his extended family.
Floyd will also be remembered by his many relations; Running Rabbit, Whitney, Runner, Duck Chief, Stimson, Three Suns, Frank, Spring Chief, Many Bears, Black Kettle, McMaster, Bear Chief, Sleigh, Young Pine and Bull Bear. We apologize for anyone we may have missed. We would also like to thank everyone for their support, prayers, encouragement and donations at this time.
Wake services will be held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Sunday, July 4th at 6:00pm. Please consider bringing lawn chairs for casual outdoor seating.
The Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 5th at 11:00 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
