Obituary for
Fern Geinger (nee Thomas)
On September 26, 2021, Fern Geinger of Mayerthorpe, AB peacefully passed away after a brief illness, at the age of 88 years.
Fern leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 69 years, Frank; daughter-in-law, Karen; daughter, Linda; grandchildren, Amanda (Shane) Benson, Kevin (Wendy) Geinger, Kyle (Jacqueline) Geinger, Tenielle (Trent) Moore, Craig Knudson, Melissa Knudson, Brandon Eady, Cassandra Eady; great-grandchildren, Gunner, Desia, Drew, Miles, Wells, Bryer, Harlynn, Foster, Paxton, Olivia and Chase; and many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by son, Ralph (2020); parents, Detmer and Lila Thomas; sisters, Lorraine (Ora) Hall, Lavine (Bill) Dixon; sister-in-law, Jean (Frank) Hagman; nephews, Marshall Hagman and Harry Angel.
Fern grew up on the family farm in Connor Creek, AB. She married Frank in 1952 and they raised their family in the Deer Lodge area. Fern was a great artist and cook; she loved painting, baking, berry-picking, sewing, dancing, curling, visiting with friends, and playing cards. Fern served on the Board of the Mayerthorpe Hospital and was proud to be a part of planning the new Mayerthorpe Health Care Centre which opened in 1985.
As an avid traveler, she and Frank greatly enjoyed visiting with friends in Arizona over 30 winters, plus visiting across Canada, and every U.S. state. As a proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Fern deeply loved Frank and her family. Fern will be greatly missed.
Thank you to the doctors and the staff of the Mayerthorpe Healthcare Centre for the comfort and care shown to Fern and the family.
Private Celebration of Fern’s Life will be live-streamed Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 2 p.m. Reverend Ruth Lotholz officiating with private inurnment in Mayerthorpe Cemetery.
