FEDESHKO Emil John January 5 2021

Emil Fedeshko, 78, of Edmonton, Alberta, lost his battle with Covid-19 on January 5th, 2021, peacefully and painlessly succumbing to this disease. Emil contracted it while in the U of A Hospital being treated for complications related to kidney dialysis. He put up a valiant fight, but in the end he was unable to overcome Covid-19 due to all of his other health issues.
Emil is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gloria, his son Ron (Rhonda), and daughter, Trina (Terry) Candela, as well as his three granddaughters, Kelsey (Jon Shaw) Fedechko, Taylor (Dean Lay) Fedechko and Sydney McCharles, and his step grandchildren, Hali Ballantyne and Tyler Sheltry. He also leaves behind his 3 sisters, Lillian (Raymond) Konieczny, Lorraine Hill, Louella (Tony) Sloboda, and his sister and brother-in-law Diane Robinson and Ken (Cheryl) Pasieka, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. His parents, William and Mary Fedechko, his In-Laws, Peter and Mary Pasieka, and his brother-in-laws, Orest Pasieka and Robby Robinson predeceased him.
All of the people that knew Emil were touched by his kind and gentle soul, his stellar work ethic, and his wonderful sense of humor. If the work was a challenge, you would always see the tip of his tongue sticking out – It was his trademark and the sight of it will be missed. His sense of humor would make you laugh, no matter the situation. He was an amazing person who will be remembered by all.
Emil was born in Mannville, AB and grew up on a farm north of town. After graduation, he attended SAIT, but always loved the farm and helped his parents out for many years. To this day, he still owns part of their land that is farmed by his godson, Kelly Konieczny. After graduation, Emil settled in Edmonton and always had a garden he was proud of. When not working in his garden, he loved to play the horse races. He studied the Racing Form for hours and took great pride in picking the long shots. Emil always believed in the underdog!! After graduation, Emil had a number of lab technician jobs, but eventually began work with Imperial Oil. He spent his entire 37-½ year career at the Strathcona Refinery in Edmonton and held numerous positions, eventually retiring as a shift supervisor. He truly enjoyed his job and the colleagues he worked with. He held many executive positions on the Valesso Social club and after retirement in June 2008, he joined the Esso Annuitant Club, where he held many positions on the Executive. While work was important to Emil, what was most near and dear to him was the time he spent with his family. Whether it was playing cards on Saturday, trips to Disneyland and Las Vegas in the summer, getting together at Christmas (for which he was always late), or vacations to the west coast to visit his sisters, he always loved having fun with his family. All who took part in these adventures will treasure the memories and laughs forever, but the most memorable thing about Emil was his ability to “nap on demand”. After every meal, he could be seen with his head down and his eyes closed dreaming about his favorite part of the meal, dessert! While Emil’s passing was untimely, his warmth and kindness will remain with us forever.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the U of A hospital, and especially those in the ICU. They work in extremely stressful conditions but treated Emil with care, kindness, and dignity until he passed. They went above and beyond to allow his family to say good-bye during these times when face-to-face visits aren’t allowed.
At this time a private virtual mass of Christian burial with Father Corrigan officiating will be held. A celebration of Emil’s life will be held once the pandemic is in check.
