Euphemia “Phemie” May Smith
October 09, 2021
We are so deeply saddened by the passing of Euphemia May Smith, daughter of the late John Archie and Euphemia (MacKinnon) Campbell.
Everyone knew her as Phemie.
She had an infectious smile and a quick wit, always ready with a funny comeback even after the years robbed her of many memories.
She was an extraordinary and devoted mother, whether it was cheering on son Keith at the hockey rink or helping daughter Amy compete in horse shows. Later on, she was very proud to be called Grandma.
Phemie enjoyed many family vacations on Cape Cod. Lobster rolls and white wine were certainly always on the menu.
She and husband Keith had a tight circle of friends, first in Massachusetts and then when they returned home to Cape Breton.
She loved dinner parties, playing cards, dancing and yoga.
Phemie regularly attended church and volunteered with various organizations including Meals on Wheels.
She is predeceased by her husband Keith; sisters Margie, Annie, Tena, Kay and Adeline; brothers Malcolm, George, Victor, Doug, Lauchie, Allister and Larry.
Phemie is survived by son Keith (Laura) and daughter Amy (Paul) and grandsons Ian and Cameron.
Her family would like to thank all of the staff at The Sagewood, especially those at Butterfly Cottage, for providing so much love and care.
A private family celebration of her life will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Friends of Sagewood (which provides music and activities for the residents) 345 Cobequid Rd, Lower Sackville, NS B4C 4C5.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Euphemia Phemie May Smith October 09 2021..
