Eugene William Swick was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on 15 January 1940, making him the Ukrainian New Year’s baby for that year.
He was the eldest of the 3 children. He was the first born grandchild of Yurko & Sophie Michayluk, who emigrated from Ukraine to establish roots for their expansive family line.
He attended Kolomyia Country School until the age of 15, at which time his mother passed; with his father also ill, he left school to help run the family farm.
Eugene married Irene Zaleschuk in August 1965. They have 3 children, Denise of Banff, Belinda (Tom) of Calgary, & Sheldon of Toronto.
Eugene started working with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1964. Throughout his almost 37 years, he was stationed in 8 different towns around the province, retiring in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan.
Always industrious & wanting to stay in touch with the community, he moved on to the Co-op in Pierson, Manitoba where he worked until 2019.
He enjoyed gardening, keeping the yard trimmed & clean, music, traveling & Always taking the time to visit.
Eugene passed away peacefully, after a brief battle, on 26 March 2021. He is survived by his wife and children, as well as his sister, Sylvia (Robert) Osatchuk of Saskatoon. He was predeceased by his mother Mary (1955), his father John (1968), his brother Steve (Cecile) Swick (2011), in-laws, Steve & Josephine Zaleschuk, brother- & sister-in-law, Fred & Mary Baschuk, and all but one of his numerous aunts & uncles.

He was much loved by his many friends and family, and will be missed by all who knew him, and received his smile & wave.
A private family service will be held at The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wakaw, Saskatchewan on Thursday, April 1st at 11 am. with Rev. Fr. Mykola Romanets officiating. Internment will be at the St. Julien Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, St. Julien Saskatchewan.
A memorial service will be held in the Gainsborough area at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eugene Swick can be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, or another Charity of your choosing.
