Obituary of Etta Edith Anderson
After a short decline, Henriettta (insistently known as Etta) Anderson, aged 98, died at the Sus Health Centre on February 1, 2021. Despite her physical decline, Etta was an avid reader and sharp as a tack until her death.
Etta was born November 20, 1922, in Knightville, NB. She was the daughter of Helen (Hall) and Ernest Chambers. She spent her childhood in Knightville and the surrounding area, where she received her early education. After completing high school in Sus, Etta attended the New Brunswick Teachers’ College in Fredericton. She spent 20 years teaching in the one-room schoolhouses in the Sus and Norton areas, including Knightville, Mace, Anagance, and Smith Creek.
In 1944, Etta married Ralph Anderson. Their son David was born in 1946. She and Ralph raised their son on the family’s dairy farm in Knightville until they retired to Sus. Ralph and Etta enjoyed travelling during their retirement. A cross-Canada trip, a trip to Europe, Egypt and the Holy Land were highlights. Ralph passed away in 1997. They had been married for 53 years.
Etta was a member of St. Paul’s United Church in Sus and a life member of the UCW. She was also very dedicated to the Women’s Institute. She was an avid craftsperson and square dancer. Her quilts, knitting, crochet work and embroidery were special gifts to family and friends over the years.
Etta was predeceased by her husband Ralph (1997) and son David (2009), and brother Harold Chambers and infant brother Norman.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Rowena Anderson of Quispamsis, grandchildren Mellissa Creighton (Chris) of Cornwall, PE and Jason Anderson (Deborah) of Quispamsis, great-grandchildren Lindsay, Benjamin and William Creighton and Isaac, Maggie and Eamon Anderson, sister Mary Carll of Riverview, sister-in-law Marg Chambers of London and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special cousin and friend Muriel McCullum.
Etta lived independently and made cookies for her great-grandchildren well into her 90s. For the past few years, her home was the Scenic View Special Care Home in Sus.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus (506-433-1176). Due to Covid-19 all services will be held privately.
Donations in memory of Etta may be made to the Gosline Cemetery or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Online condolences and donations may be made at WallaceFuneralHome.com
The family thanks the doctors and nurses at the Sus Health Centre and Mercy and the staff of Scenic View for taking such great care of Nanny Anderson.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Etta Edith
