Obituary
Passed away peacefully, at the age of 61, in the early morning, at the Ottawa Hospital (Civic Campus). Devoted father to Dalton and Riley Maitland, and loving grandfather to Jack. Predeceased by his birth father, Harvey Edwin Cavanagh, and his adoptive father, Bill (William Raymond Alexander) Maitland; and by his mother, Marian Elizabeth (Cavanagh) Maitland (nee Chalmers). Survived by his brothers, Gerrie, Harvey, Brett and Peter-James; his sister, Heather-Laurie; and his faithful companion, Bingo.
Eric was a gentle giant to his many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered for his quick wit, commitment to the family, inventive spirit (in the workshop and in his kitchen), love for good food and friendly arguments, and willingness to offer guidance (whether requested or not).
His optimism, courage and strong spirit are with us still. In respect of his wishes, no service or viewing is planned. Donations in Eric’s memory can be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, The Ottawa Hospital, Bruyere Saint-Vincent Hospital, Easter Seals Ontario, March of Dimes, or a charity of your choice. Thanks to the teams at the Saint-Vincent Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital’s Neurological Acute Care Unit and ICU, for the care and support they provided to him.
