Eric Peters
1947-2021
Eric passed away in the early hours of November
4th at the Moncton Hospital following several
months of failing health.
Eric was born in Cape Breton, the eldest of six children of
Catherine and Bill Peters. He was predeceased by his parents
and two sisters – Cathy Peters and Mary Daley. He is
survived by wife Carmen; stepchildren Rachelle Vo-Ngoc (Franck) and
Daniel Vo-Ngoc, two grandchildren Emmett and Clara Vo-Ngoc Desgranges
as well as sisters Anna Peters, Jeanne Flanagan (Len) and brother Bill
Peters, brother-in-law Ed Daley, plus nephews Drew Flanagan, Adam
Flanagan (Steve), Matthew Flanagan, Robb Daley, and Chris Daley
(Rachel).
Eric graduated from Moncton High School in 1965 and then
completed the two year secondary education program at Teachers College
in Fredericton.
He also did his BA and BEd at the University of Moncton and
his Masters of Education at UNB.
Eric’s professional walk of life included teaching at
Birchmount School and Harrison Trimble High School and with most of
his career spent as an administrator. He was vice principal and
principal of Beaverbrook School, principal of Claude D. Taylor School,
then finished his educational career as the Early Years Supervisor for
School District 2.
As a young man, Eric played football, baseball, fastball and
a bit of hockey. He became involved in coaching, first with
the Moncton Minor Football Association as head coach of the Raiders
and later coached football at the high school level, both at Harrison
Trimble and L.B. MacNaughton, and basketball at Harrison Trimble.
Further coaching included minor basketball, women’s
softball, and women’s touch football. Eric also worked with
summer programs operated by Basketball New Brunswick. Following his
years of coaching, Eric moved on to referee football and spent several
years officiating and timing both minor and high school
games.
Upon retirement in 2002, Eric continued his lifelong love of
reading and was able to travel quite extensively, following his wife
to the US, Taiwan, Bangladesh, and many countries in southeast Asia,
Europe, and the Caribbean.
For the past ten years, Eric absolutely delighted in spending
time with his two grandchildren and, like all doting grandfathers,
related tales of these two children to any within
earshot.
Eric was very fond of dogs, but had bad experiences with
cats; loved music and occasionally broke into random song entertaining
his friends to their delight.
Eric leaves us having spent a well-lived life of dedication
to the education of children; of leadership both in the school system
and in amateur coaching, and loyalty to family and
friends.
His family will be receiving family and friends on Sunday,
November 7, 2021 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Cobb’s Funeral
Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007). A
Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday at 2:00pm at
Cobb’s Funeral Home. For those who wish to
attend either events, please remember to bring proof of double
vaccination, provincial identification and have your face mask.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Eric Peters 19472021..
