Obituary
With heavy hearts, but praising God for a long life well lived, the family of Elva Geneva (Dunn) Watson announce her passing, which took place after a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital in the early morning of November 13, 2021. Although COVID-19 restrictions prevented hospital visitations during her recent illness, Elva was fortunate to have celebrated her 90th birthday on September 16, 2021, with many of her family, friends, and neighbours.
She was predeceased by her parents, Annie (Allen) and Arthur Dunn, as well as her sisters Barbara Archer, Sylvia Parks, her only brother Arthur (Junior) Dunn and daughter-in-law Vickie (Guitard) Watson. She lost her loving husband of 68 years, Philip Ernest Watson, on August 31, 2014.
She will be dearly missed by her son Ronald Watson (partner Joanne) daughter Joanne (Watson) Coughlan, son-in-law Tom Coughlan, her sister Beverly (Len) MacDougall and her sister-in-law Dora Watson. She was most proud of her grandchildren Scott (Robin) Watson, Rhonda Watson (Billy), Jason Coughlan, Robin (Jayme) Watson and Jennifer Coughlan (Jacques). She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren who were all the light of her life. She also had many nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted and caring mother who stayed home with her children while they were small then entered the work force later at such stores as Calps, Hals Drug Store, Olsen’s Convenience and Canadian Tire East, where she retired. Elva spent many summers ‘up country’ in Cumberland Bay at ‘the camp’ making memories with her family and friends. She had large gardens of flowers, fruits, and vegetables that she tended to and was an amazing cook and even better baker. The memories of her Christmas baking will warm the hearts of her family as they try to recreate her special treats with her recipes each year, although no one will be able to duplicate her amazing Apple Crisp. She was very active with her grandchildren and took care of them when they were young. Elva was the matriarch of the family who demonstrated great compassion and resiliency in life. She was well known for her strength and independence, especially in her later years, but she was even more well known for her kind and giving heart and her caring and nurturing manner.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) Visitation and a celebration of life will be held on Thursday November 18, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service to begin at 1:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings, all those attending the service will be required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination with a piece of government issued ID. Following the service interment to be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
The family would appreciate donations made in her memory to the Tabernacle Baptist Church where she attended services and had a close relationship with Pastor Bob Allaby and his wife Sandra, and all the parishioners. To send a message of condolence please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
