Elaine Janice Griffin
1942-2021
Elaine Janice Griffin passed away peacefully at the age of 78
in her home February 19th with her family
present as she wished. Elaine is survived by her husband Gordie
& her daughters Beth Griffin (Terry Prosser), Tara Watson
(Darryl), Michelle Griffin (James Kennedy). Grandchildren Thomas
Watson (Kate), Melissa Watson, Nicholas Martin (Jacqueline Bain),
Trevor Watson and Connor Griffin, also Great-grandchildren Sean
Watson, Olivia Cummings, Thomas James Watson, Evelyn Elaine Watson and
Isabella Martin.
Elaine was born in Woodstock, NB on May 14, 1942 and
pre-deceased by her parents Archie and Doris (Cunningham) Demerchant.
She is also survived by her six siblings: Lillian (Bunny) Pryor,
Marilyn Everett, Sandra Bryant, Paul Demerchant, Louis Demerchant
& Mackie Demerchant as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Early in her adult life, Elaine worked as a telephone
operator for NBTel. She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitch, sewing,
baking and reading. She had endless compassion for all animals
especially those who were injured or mistreated. She often brought
animals into her home and loved them back to health with great care
and patience. Most of all, Elaine enjoyed watching her family grow
into great, responsible adults with families of their own. Elaine
loved watching her grandchildren become wonderful adults and the youth
of her great-grandchildren developing personalities as individuals
themselves with traits of their parents and grand parents peaking
through. She loved them all so deeply.
Throughout the years her children and grandchildren would
often find a friend or family member seeking guidance or a listening
ear from Elaine. She was never one to judge but encouraged
them to see other people’s perspective, their own strengths
and support them to be strong enough in their decisions to see things
through. She was always supportive no matter their choices
or advice they accepted from her. Elaine always took time to
listen about life events of others and give them her compassion and
understanding. This began at a very young age for Elaine as she was
the oldest of seven children.
Her family would like to thank everyone who helped care for
Elaine during her illness especially those who went the extra mile
even though their work day was done, the paramedics at Ambulance New
Brunswick, the Extra Mural Program in Woodstock and all the physicians
who were involved in her care. Last but certainly not least, the
continuous care and support of her Littlest Angel; without your care,
Elaine would not have been able to stay home as she wished. The entire
family was confident in the excellent care you provided whenever we
left the house or laid our heads on our pillows at night. Mom had the
very best of care and we are forever grateful.
There will be a private family celebration of
Elaine’s life held on July 4th, 2021
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to
the Carleton County Animal Shelter or a charity of the donors own
