Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Edward William Lantz announce his passing on February 11, 2021 at the age of 91 years.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Gwen; children, Terry (Pam) Lantz, of Wetaskiwin, Karrie (Rob) Hoover, of Airdrie, Tracy (James) Normandeau of Wetaskiwin, and David Baptist of Edmonton; grandchildren, Brandon, Shelby, Dain, Paul, Dax, Nicolle, Tommy, Breasha, Jessica, Bianca, Lainey step-sister, Marion Moon; sisters in law, Irene Lantz, Raeona Hanson; brother in law, Jack Heller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Mayme (Sorbo) Lantz; stepfather, Alfred Burgess; brothers, Andy, Donald and Kenneth Lantz; sister in law, Penny Lantz; first wife of 35 years, Alfrieda (Hiller) Lantz; mother and father in law, Jack and Nellie Heller; brother in law, Gene Hanson; and infant granddaughter, Cassandra Baptist.
Edward was born on the homestead in Clover Lawn(Millet) area. Ed was known for so many things, mainly being a mechanic and a welder. He went to school earning welding and pressure welding certifications from SAIT.
He worked up in Red Water for a few years and moved back to Wetaskiwin after getting married to Alfrieda. He worked for Stan Reynolds and Wetaskiwin Motors. Ed then ventured into owning his own business, Lanco Welding, of which he was incredibly proud. After selling his shop, he worked for the County of Wetaskiwin until his retirement.
Ed Volunteered for 40 plus years with Prison Fellowship, which involved going into the prisons to minister to the inmates. He was always trying to recruit volunteers to come into the prison with him; this is how he met his loving wife, Gwen. Together they volunteered in prison ministries for many years. Ed loved the learning exchange sabbaticals he volunteered for; he especially loved his trip to Angola prison. He wished many times that he could return. Angola was where he learned about the Malachi Dad’s program which he helped establish here in Alberta in conjunction with the Prison Fellowship organization. He was incredibly proud to be a part of this program as it taught many dads in prison how to re-establish relationships with their children on the outside.
Ed was also very involved with the Full Gospel Business Men’s International organization. One of his life goals was to attend as many of their banquets and conventions as possible. Through this organization, he travelled to both the Holy Land and Japan. There, he gave his testimony of salvation to others and witnessed many miracles of God.
Ed loved going to McDonald’s for coffee every day that he could. He sometimes went up to three times per day on his less busy days. He loved mowing his lawn and even a few neighbours’ yards as well. Blowing snow was another passion. Ed would take out the leaf blower and, on some days, clear the snow for up to 25 homes in the neighbourhood. He did this just because it needed to get done and for the joy of helping others. Never would he ask for payment.
Ed was also a very big prankster. He loved pulling practical jokes. Some of which included; putting smoke bombs in engines, hooking up brakes to the horn of a car, and his most favourite, remote flatulence machines mounted under chairs at family functions.
He always had jokes and stories in his pockets and loved sharing them with everyone that he met through his day.
Ed would fix anything that others thought unfixable. Broken appliances and hearts were his specialties. His sense of humour and kindness will be missed dearly and never forgotten.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, February 18, at 10:30 am. Given Covid restrictions, it will be Immediate Family only with a live stream available on Facebook joining the Full Gospel Fellowship page or on YouTube with Full Gospel Online.
