Edgar G Hunt 19472021 avis de deces

Edgar G. Hunt
1947-2021
Born and raised in Jersey Harbour, NL, Edgar was the proud
son of parents Edgar Sr. and Pearl Hunt. The middle child of
five boys, Edgar was raised to appreciate the outport way of life on
the southern coast of the province. Edgar’s
upbringings instilled in him a desire to pursue many life interests,
including civil service and education. Edgar relocated to
Harbour Breton in the early 1960s and later settled in Twillingate in
1971, the final stop on his adventurous journey through
life. It is here that he met and married his wife, Madeline
Earle in 1977, who together raised one son, Andrew, who was born in
1982.
Edgar, a man with natural intelligence, enhanced his skills
and talents at Memorial University, obtaining Bachelors degrees in
Arts and Education. These advancements allowed him to excel
in fields of social work and education, including 24 years as a high
school teacher at Coaker Academy in Virgin Arm, NL, a career for which
he had developed a deep passion and which produced a collegial network
of friendships and lasting bonds.
Although he proudly retired from teaching in 1998 after a
very accomplished career, he remained heavily engaged in community
leadership and volunteerism for the next 22 years. Chasing
Andrew’s love for sport, Edgar committed much of his time to
the NL Minor Hockey Association with various roles and titles, taking
him back to his outport roots as he ventured around the province and
beyond visiting all communities that housed anything that resembled a
hockey rink.
A devoted member of the Lions Club for 48 years, Edgar held
every office at the club level except Treasurer, including four terms
as President and one term as District Governor. Just prior
to his death, he was given the honour of Life Membership with Lions
International, a gesture he greatly cherished.
A self-educated “Jack of all trades,” Edgar
possessed great skill as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, hunter,
fisherperson, and so on. Perhaps his greatest architectural
accomplishment was the construction of his family cabin at Ten Mile
Lake, his true place of serenity and enjoyment, and the heart of his
family gatherings that included his most precious gifts, grandchildren
Jacob, Sydney, and Charlotte.
Edgar was predeceased by: parents Edgar Sr. and Pearl Hunt;
brothers: Wallace, Roger and Winston.
Edgar leaves with many loving and treasured memories: wife
Madeline; son Andrew (Christa-Lee); grandchildren: Jacob, Sydney and
Charlotte; brother Raymond (Esther); sisters-in-law: Sadie, Christine
and Ellen; brother-in-law David Earle (Roseann) as well as a large
circle of extended relatives, friends Lions members and
colleagues.
Special thanks to the staff and physicians at Notre Dame Bay
Memorial Health Centre, the Cancer Centre at James Paton Memorial
Health Centre, the Twillingate Lions Club, and a long list of family,
friends, and people who supported him along life’s
journey.
In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the health and
safety of our families and our community continues to be our highest
priority. Keeping with Edgar’s wishes Cremation has taken
place. Donations may be made in Edgar’s honour to Lions
International and Lions Foundation of Canada Dog
Guides.
