Moore, William George “Earl”
On Sunday April 11, 2021 in the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital in his 89th year William George Earl Moore passed after an extended illness.
Born November 7, 1932 to parents Robert William Moore and Agnus Wilson (McCullough). Earl was raised on the family farm on Goodstown Road where he started his family in 1954 until moving to Ashton in 1960, residing there for more than 61 years. Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marion (Fisher), infant daughter Helen Moore, sister Doreen Cowell and brother Everett Moore. He is survived by his sister Betty Pierunek. Proud father of Raymond Moore (Shirley), Shirley MacDonald (Tony), Robert Moore (Sharon) and Ron Moore (Melanie), cherished grandfather of Wayne, Shannon, William, Makayla, Myles, Kelsy, Rhett, Rienne and Dawson and great grandfather of Olivia, Tori, Cody, Abigail, Isla, Willa and Akila. Uncle Earl will be sadly missed by multiple generations of nieces and nephews. Earl along with his companion and friend Doris Porteous, shared a passion for his fleet of antique Chevrolet cars by attending car shows and flea markets, old time country music events and RV camping.
Prior to his retirement, Earl worked as a mechanic, welder and heavy equipment operator and held a provincial licence as a hoisting engineer for the operation of cranes. His unblemished work and safety record led to occupational education authorities pursuing him to instruct new operators in heavy equipment operation. For many years, Earl maintained a repair service for local farmers and residents at his home on Flewellyn Road, working evenings and weekends and continuing the practice for many years after his ‘retirement’. In his ‘spare time’ during the winter months he would process firewood for sale, often exceeding 150 cord annually. Never one to sit idly, Earl restored many automobiles and tractors and although proficient and knowledgeable in many makes and models, reserved his loyalty and ownership for Chevrolets and International tractors. Earl’s antique and classic Chevrolet’s were a feature of many weddings and birthday celebrations with approximately 150 occasions and events attended.
Earl’s selfless willingness to share his vast store of technical knowledge and his good humour will be sadly missed by his many friends and neighbours. The family wish to extend their thanks and appreciation to the Medical Surgical Unit, 2nd floor Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital for the care, passion and kindness extended to Earl during his stay with them.
