Dwight’s Obituary
HATT, Blanchard “Dwight” ~ age 78 of Wilmot, Annapolis Co. passed away May 15, 2020 with daughter Tommi and son in law Ian by his side. Born at home March 30, 1942, he was a son of the late Lewis Hibbert and Marjory Grace (Balsor) Hatt. Dwight worked with his father doing masonary work and working in the woods. He spent some time working in Ontario before settling back in Nova Scotia. He also worked at United Elastic Ltd. and with Hiltz’s Garage in Wilmot. Dwight loved gardening, his cousin Cameron (Camy) Hatt would come prepare the land for him each year. He had to have peas planted, they very seldom made it to the stove for cooking as he and Tommi would go to pick them and would end up eating most of what was being picked right there in the garden. He was looking forward to planting jumbo marigolds that daughter Angela told him about, so we are all planting jumbo marigolds for him. Dwight enjoyed talking to his children every day and his brothers, Cecil and Reuben, on the phone. He was able to FaceTime with Angela and Scott after getting out of the hospital and his face lite up when theirs appeared on the screen. Once when talking to Scott, Scott had to get him to adjust himself so he could see his face, he said do you see that little box in the corner of the screen, and he said yes so Scott said that’s you, he said that doesn’t look like me that looks like a wrinkled up old senior citizen. He loved going for drives with his lifelong best friend, Larry McInnis and when Larry wasn’t able to drive anymore they would talk on the phone often. Dwight will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Scott Hatt (Jeannie Saltzman), Kentville; Angela Hatt, Torbay, NL and Tommi (Ian) Laffin, Waterville; brothers, Cecil (Greta) Hatt, New Glasgow; Reuben (Nancy) Hatt, Mt. Uniacke; sister, Gwen (Mervin) Heidi, Ontario; grandchildren, Cody Hatt (Emma Johnson), Malissa (Ryan) Bradford, Naomi Hatt, Devin Hatt (Cayla VanHouwelingen), Robert (Kodie) Spencer, Matthew Laffin, Jenny Laffin (Steven Shaw), Morgan Laffin; great grandchildren Alex, Conner, Paisley and Evan and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Lewis “Manning” Hatt, a sister in infancy and nephew Steve Hatt. In keeping with Dwight’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life, by invitation only, will be held 2:00PM, Saturday August 21, 2021 in the Waterville & District Fire Hall.
