It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Douglas Herbert Mayes which occurred on June 10th, 2021, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his beloved family after a short battle with cancer. Born in Saint John, NB on April 21, 1946 he was the eldest son of the late Willard and Edith (Cawood) Mayes.
Doug worked in the financial services industry for over 40 years, starting at Canada Permanent and most recently with Pattison Investments. He was a life-long resident of the North End of the City of Saint John. He was a long-time member of St. Luke’s Church serving as a vestryman, vestry clerk and church warden as well as Scout Master.
Doug was a local hockey fan who was also involved in minor hockey for many years with his boys. He was a member of the Saint John Power Boat Club, as Captain of the Ranada for over 40 years, and acted in many capacities including Commodore and Cruise Director.
He was a dedicated member of The New Brunswick Lodge #22, serving as Worshipful Master in 1986 and 2003. He was also a member of the Luxor Shriners, Royal Order of Scotland, The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Survived by his wife Dorothy (Cormier), who he met in 1967. Also survived by three children, Sean (Kimberly), Susan (Sean Driscoll), and Christopher, and two grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew, his brother Gary (Della), sister-in-law Noella Hansen (Doug) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12, 2021, between the hours of 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Preceding the evening visitation, a Masonic Service will take place at 5:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 13th at 11:00 am from the Fundy Chapel.

Interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Goodtime, a summer haven for New Brunswick children and youth who have been diagnosed with cancer.
