Death Notice
TOAL, Dorothy Jean (nee Ryckman) – Peacefully in palliative care at Parkwood on April 5, 2021, Dorothy Jean Toal passed away in her 98th year. Beloved wife of Stanley Meredith Toal for 72 years, Dorothy is survived by son Brian, daughter Nancy (Bob) and granddaughters Danielle (Jared) and Jocelyn. Predeceased by her parents Harmon and Ida Ryckman, sisters Verna, Annabelle, Ina and Lenore and by brothers Robert, William and Howard. Fondly remembered by special nieces and nephews, church friends and extended family. Special thanks to Horizon Retirement and Parkwood Palliative Care for their kindness.
Dorothy loved the beauty of flowers, trees, birds and clouds and enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, oil painting and in recent years, colouring. She also loved the 40’s music that Bob played for her in the car and especially the musical voices of Stan and Jocelyn. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother. When the girls were young, she was always eager to play a game, bake or visit the library. As they grew, she was a listening ear and a happy supporter of all their goals.
Her best days were spent with family and especially Stan, with whom she enjoyed travelling, working on their homes and projects together and hosting family dinners. The highlight of recent years was Brian’s annual visit back from Vietnam when we went on road trips to favourite spots of yesteryear. She was a glass half-full kind of person and saw the best in everyone. Her beautiful spirit will be missed every day and cherished forever.
Private family service at Harris Funeral Home on Thursday, April 8. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions to Rowntree Memorial United Church would be appreciated.
