Dorothy Louise Baines
On December 9, 2021, Dorothy Baines, known to her grandchildren as “Nanny,” passed away peacefully in her room at Afton Park Place in Sarnia at age 90. Dorothy was born January 20, 1931 to Charles and Ivy Scott in Point Edward, where she would eventually meet the love of her life Ross (2005) and raised her three children Ronald (2021), Sandra (2010) and Gary (2010). Dorothy is survived by her three grandsons Brock, Brent and Derek, and daughters-in-law Debbie and Sharon. Dorothy dedicated her life to the service of her family and her faith. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and caring for them. She liked taking rides with Ross in his antique cars and boats, and quietly loved the incessant teasing she was subjected to along the way. She was an excellent cook and loved getting the family together for a delicious meal. She never missed any of her grandson’s hockey, lacrosse or basketball games, and always stuck around after the game to congratulate them on how well they had played, even when they hadn’t. Dorothy was deeply religious and her devotion to the Christian faith was apparent in everything she did. She was incredibly kind and charitable, and she always put the needs of others before her own. Dorothy studied her bible every day and made sure that every meal was sufficiently blessed, despite Ross’s repeated pleas for her to “keep ‘er short”. Dorothy regularly attended church services and bible study meetings around Sarnia and Point Edward. Dorothy’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Afton Park Place. A funeral service has been planned for 1:00 pm. on December 16, 2021 at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9. Friends and family are welcomed visit from noon until the time of the service. Charitable donations made in memory of Dorothy to St. Joseph’s Hospice or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
