We, the family of Doris Mary Leyte, regret to announce her passing on Friday, November 5, 2021, in the Palliative Care, An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born October 30, 1925, in Amherst, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Cormier) Lirette.
Doris worked various place over the years, including K-Mart, Eaton’s, Miles IGA and Fred’s Creamery. She was a member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney. Doris was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12 Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of Club 55, the Sydney Pensioners and the CN Pensioners.
She is survived by her son, John (Marilyn) Leyte; five grandchildren, Scott Leyte (June), Kim Leyte (Charlie), George Leyte, Mark Leyte and Dale Ann (Keith) Hopkins; daughter-in-law, Dale Leyte; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Clayton and son, George. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Doris was predeceased by her sisters, Pauline, Delma and Irene and brothers, Ernie and Sammy.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Covid-19 protocol will be followed. Double vaccination, ID and masks are mandatory. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
