Donald “Kent”‘s Obituary
ROBINSON, Donald “Kent” ~ Age 66, of Wilmot, Annapolis Co., our family sadly announces the passing of Kent Robinson on Friday, May 14th., 2021, at home, surrounded by family. Kent was born in Middleton on August 17th, 1954, the son of Duncan Robinson and the late Shirlee (Dunning) Robinson. He is survived by his loving wife, Shannon; his son, Evan (Haley); his daughter, Belinda; his grandchildren, Jameison, Breigha and Adleigh; his father, Duncan Robinson; brother, Peter (Beth); sisters, Ann Miskell (Pat) and Sally Macfarlane (Al); in-laws, Sharon and Kelly Hutton, Chuck and Brenda Elliott and Vincent Elliott; nieces and nephews, Robyn Macfarlane, Reid Macfarlane (Holly), Michael Miskell (Lorie), Jaime Miskell, Paula MacMillan (Eric), Scott Robinson (Sylvie), Allison Robinson, Jennifer Robinson and Rachel Robinson; cousin, Peter Morrison (Laura). Kent also leaves a very large extended family. Kent was predeceased by his mother, Shirlee Robinson, whom he loved dearly. In his family Kent was known as Uncle Buck and to his many friends he was a force of nature. Kent had a magnetism about him that created life-long friends. His opinions of which there was never any shortage were valued by those people he shared them with. Many considered it an honour to have been his friend. Kent had a zest for life. He lived his time with us with a passion for enjoying all the events around him. Whether golfing, skiing or participating in politics Kent dived into his passions. During his time out west he made many wonderful and dear lifelong friends. Kent met his wife Shannon in Calgary and they were inseparable. He loved celebrating the Calgary Stampede with his pals. He also actively participated in skiing especially at Sunshine in Banff. He went to Calgary Flames games and golfed all the best courses. Kent made a good living in the insurance business meeting many business owners and helping them with their insurance requirements. He was known for his kindness, generosity, large heart and gregarious personality. His presence at a social event often drove the conversation in a direction that he directed. Kent often had a pocket “mickey” that he would share with all those present. Kent’s passion for politics was also very well know. He carried his Nova Scotia Conservative roots with him to Alberta where he worked tirelessly for conservative political parties including the Reform Party, the Progressive Conservative Party and the Conservative party. Kent supported many candidates in Alberta and helped to guide many to victory. Upon returning to Nova Scotia with his wife Shannon in 2006 Kent began supporting and guiding provincial and federal conservative candidates. Kent also ran for election in Nova Scotia and continued to advise candidates on election strategies right up to his passing. His political insight was always valued by those he encountered who were pursuing election. Kent was very knowledgeable about history and particularly our Canadian history. You never wanted to enter a conversation with Kent on current and past historical events unless you were thoroughly up to date on the subject matter. He was a believer in the adage that you needed to know your past to know where you are going. Kent loved dogs and his dog pals were Spencer, Toby, Stuart, Jack, Jill, Elvis and Eskie. He always had time to spend with them and enjoyed taking them out for walks on the Fundy shore. You could really see the kindness that Kent had within him when he was around his dogs. There was never a shortage of toys for all of them and he enjoyed playing with all his furry friends through the decades. He loved Nova Scotia and especially walking along the beaches of the Bay of Fundy. He would come home with all kinds of items from the shore and put them in Shannon’s and his yard. Kent had a love of fireworks and whatever the occasion he would be overseeing the spectacular fireworks show. Kent loved his fast cars from his Camaro to his Porsche with Audis and a BMW’s too. Kent liked to drive fast and far. He had a memorable trip across the U.S. and often recounted events on the trip. His yellow 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 was his favourite. Kent had a large collection of items that he had accumulated from antique and junk shops in Calgary. Many of the items were one of a kind from kaleidoscopes to Persian rugs and everything in between. When his carriage house with all those items within it burned to the ground three years ago Kent was heartbroken. Among his many other passions were cooking, baseball, music and Christmas were high on the list. His seafood chowder was well renowned. He also had this wonderful ability of making everyone welcome in his home. Kent positively impacted many lives and he truly will not be forgotten. A graveside service will take place on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2:00pm for family and friends in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, with Rev. Sweis Ubels officiating.
