PRITCHARD, Donald Leslie “Donnie” – Dartmouth, Nova Scotia – Age 58, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021 after spending the last month in palliative care at the Dartmouth General Hospital following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Donald and Irene (Martin) Pritchard of Halifax. Born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Donnie accompanied his family to Halifax in 1976 where he continued to reside until his passing. Donnie was employed in the private security industry for many years and will be fondly remembered by both peers and trainees. Donnie was a caring and concerned friend. There are no words to fully measure how much he will be missed by those he held so dear in his heart. Donnie was a former member of the militia in the 33 rd Service Battalion Medical Section and was also a Master Mason in good standing in Eastern Star Lodge. Twenty-five years ago, Donnie met the love of his life, Brenda. He became a joyous mate, friend, true companion and attentive husband to his perfect bride “Brendie” – once she accepted his offer to spend the rest of his life with her. They were a loving and committed couple like few others. He was only truly happy and content when he was with his true love. They shared a love for their cats, riding motorcycles, doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, Rat Pack era music, and discovering local beers and ciders. Donnie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-three years, Brenda (Gould-Thorpe); siblings Ross (Marion) Pritchard, Lois (Tom) McGrail, Janet Conners, Norma (Peter) Iversen and Ruth Pritchard; mother-in-law Patricia Gould-Thorpe (Bill), sister-in-law Joanna Gould-Thorpe (Dave), brother-in-law John Gould-Thorpe (Jeannie). As well, he was the adored uncle and “auntie Donnie” to his nieces and nephews. He loved to tell “uncle jokes” to them, usually ending with a chorus of groans. Donnie was predeceased by both of his parents and his father-in-law, Jim Gould-Thorpe. Jim always liked Donnie as a son-in-law, even though Jim once dropped a shed and a bunch of bricks on him. Special thanks to the palliative care team who were so invested in his comfort the last few months and the nurses and doctors on 4-East who cared for Donnie during his last month. It cannot be overstated that their genuine care and concern contributed immeasurably to the peaceful and pain-free passing Donnie experienced. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 restrictions presently, a future celebration of Donnie’s life will take place at a time when those wishing to attend will be able to. Donations in Donnie’s memory can be made to Bide-Awhile, SPCA or Hope-for-Wildlife. If you wish to send condolences, please visit www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca.
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night”.
