Obituary for Donald Bruce Wright
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Bruce Wright, who died peacefully in Petrolia, Ontario with his family at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife, Desda Joanne Smith, his cherished children Cheryl Wright (Kevin Hartley) and Don Wright (Kathy) and stepchildren Kathy Hollinworth, Donna Stewart, Cindy Stewart (Bob), his brother and best friend Ken Wright (Daintree), and dearly loved grandchildren Rob Hollinworth, Natasha Aines, Michael Wright, and Rebecca Hartley, and great-grandchildren Madison, Ava, and Mia. He was predeceased by his parents John Bruce Wright and Ella Mae (Rogers) Wright of Kincardine, Ontario.
Dad was born in Elora, Ont., but grew up in Kincardine which was always home to him, even though he lived in many places throughout his life. He was still a teenager when he joined the Air Force in 1953, becoming a Radio Operator. His career in the RCAF took him to many places, including Churchill, Manitoba, then overseas to Europe, finally based in Metz, France, and then eventually back to Canada.
He greatly enjoyed many years of playing sports, including baseball, curling, golfing and bowling. He shared his love of sports with his son, with whom he watched many games. He loved fishing – he caught a lot of salmon while living out in BC. It was after moving to Ottawa that he met his true love and soulmate, Joanne, and they enjoyed many years together, inspiring their families with their kindness, love and happiness. They were thrilled to travel widely during retirement, and we are comforted with the many happy memories we have of numerous shared trips and visits.
Dad leaves a legacy of kindness, a joyful sense of humour, terrific memories, and most of all a deep love he felt for all of his family. We carry him in our hearts, and hope to continue to pass on his gift of love and laughter.
Please celebrate his life by doing what he always did: always remind those close to you that you love them. And maybe tell them a joke or two.
