87 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington. Beloved husband of the late Sui-En Lin (June 28, 2020). Loving father of Xi Zhang (Li Qiong Wang) and Lin Mei Zhang Lee (Gary Laing Lee). Cherished grandfather of Zhi Yu David Zhang, Sommer Lin Lee, Merisa Mee Lee, Amber Zhang Lee and Krystal May Lee. Dear brother of Dr. Tee-kee Cheung (Qui Yin Lau Cheung), De-Yan Zhang (late Mei Qin) and late De-Nin Zhang (Bao Quan Lu). Adored uncle of nieces Eva Cheung Wu (Michael Wu), Luna Cheung, Yi Zhang, and nephews Zhen Ming Jim Zhang (Fiona), Dr. Humphrey Cheung (Andrea) and Yu Zhang (Fong Wang).
De Ning was born on July 6th 1933 in Nan Jing, China and grew up in Shanghai. He went to Fudan University, Shanghai in 1953 for biology. During school he met the love of his life, Sui-En Lin. This started their 67-year long love story. De Ning devoted 22 years as a scientist at the Institute of Hydrobiology, Wuhan Chinese Academy of Sciences and spent 15 years working for the Environmental Protection Research Institute Petrochemical Corporation in Shanghai. After he retired in 1994 as a senior engineer, he joined his wife in 1995 to come to Canada and devoted all his love and time to help raise his four granddaughters. Through the years, De Ning and Sui-En enjoyed seeing their grandchildren grow up to become loving and educated people. De Ning had a passion to take photos, cook, study art and travel. De Ning and Sui En loved their life in Canada. They also enjoyed their trips to their hometown, Shanghai. They were so proud of how it had become so modern and fancy. In June 2019, De Ning’s childhood dream of seeing the Tower Bridge (London) and Eiffel Tower (Paris) came true with the help of his daughter and granddaughters. He was so happy and content.
De Ning was such a devoted husband to Sui-En. They were together for 67 years and married for 59 years. On June 28th 2020, he lost his beloved Sui-En. Within seven months, he followed her into heaven. Now they are both in God’s care. May you rest in peace dear Bàba, Yiéyie, Wàigōng. Thank you for everything and your love will forever be with us. May De Ning and Sui-En rest in peace and may you look over each of us until the day we meet again. Love you always.
A private family gathering will be held at Reid Funeral Home, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Sunday, January 31st 2021 followed by cremation. Family and friends are invited to share their words of comfort and remembrance at www.reidfuneralhome.ca
