David L Tweedley 2021 avis de deces

September 8, 1935 – November 30, 2021
David passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital. He was the son of Dorothy and David Tweedley of Thunder Bay. With family, Dave spent many summers visiting the Lakehead and sharing his passion for the surroundings of his youth. A man with an independent spirit and a keen competitor, Dave believed in recreational participation for everyone.
Following his graduation from George Williams College, now Aurora University in Chicago, with a Kinesiology degree, he married Alyce Vaughan and relocated to Toronto. He is survived by his children David Jr., Paul(Linda), Allison Aikins(Phil) and Sean(Laurie) and his partner, Eleanor O’Gorman
Dave was the proud grandfather of Justine, Anna Diane, Alan, Daniel, Peter, Krissie, Michael, Bridget, Stephen, Parker and Sydney.
He will be missed by Eleanor’s sisters Isabel Feasby(Tom) and Kathleen Wormsbecker(Eric) as well as nieces and nephews Colin, Jonathon, Charlotte, Anne and Sean. He was predeceased by his sister Joanne Cofell. His Thunder Bay family, niece Janis Cofell Farrish(David) and cousin Helen Carroll remember him fondly. All the great nieces and nephews will miss Uncle Dave.
Dave’s early employment began in Thunder Bay with cutting greens at the Strathcona Golf Club, then working at the grain elevators. While a student in Chicago, he worked at a grain elevator and youth clubs to fund his education.
David’s career focused on the concept of fitness for all. His recreation and fitness work began at the Toronto Central YMCA, then the Broadview Y and the Greenwood Community Center. Later, he managed the first Fitness Facility at the Granite Club before being appointed Sports Manager. He was a Leaside Curling Club Manager.
An excellent athlete, Dave participated in numerous volleyball and golf championships. Most notably, he was selected an All American at the 1957 US National Volleyball Championships in Memphis, Tenn. He played on two Canadian National Championship teams and three Pan American teams. He contributed to the growth of volleyball through coaching, administration and officiating in Ontario and Canada. Recently, Dave was inducted into the Ontario Volleyball Association Hall of Fame. As an avid golfer at Meadowbrook Golf Club, he won Club Championships and captured two Ontario Golf Association titles with his partners in the Father/ Son and the Senior Better Ball Championships.
Many family and friends will all miss his dry humour and absolute, direct honesty!
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the Doug Philpott Inner City Children’s Tennis Fund or a charity of your choice.
