McINTYRE (Hedley) Darlene H. – Darlene (the Machine) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family in Lindsay, Ontario on Sunday, August 22nd, 2021, in her 78th year. Predeceased in 2014 by dear husband and soulmate Duncan. Proud mother to Jennifer of Bowen Island, B.C., Andrea (Myles) of Coquitlam B.C., Alexis (Mike) of London U.K. and Linn of Nevada City, California. Loving grandmother to Henry, Archer, Duncan, Adelaide, Gordon, and Shayden. Sister to Barry, Lori and Wendy, sister-in-law to Kathryn. Aunt to Tanya, Rob, Alaina, Emily, Anne, and Brodie.
Darlene will be remembered for her amazing sense of humour, sharp wit, storytelling, and active engagement in the Lindsay community. She was a teacher, coach, artist, and lifelong athlete and volunteer. She first taught in Kapuskasing before settling in Lindsay where she taught Physical Education and Art, and her love of travel also took her overseas to teach in Kuwait. Her retirement was very active, spending time with family, working part-time as a tour guide, enjoying the beauty of the family cottage on Loon Lake and laughing with friends, particularly her best friend Dale Fisher.
She lived for thirty years after first being diagnosed with cancer, determined to live life on her own terms, with strength and dignity. Her family will be forever grateful for the unwavering community support she received throughout her illness, without which, her remarkable story would not have been possible.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to be held in the summer of 2022. Donations to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
