It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Clare at the Ottawa Hospital on December 9,2021 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Clare is survived by her loving husband Chris Seeley, and daughters Rachel and Nieve (partners Sydnee and Matthew). Mourned by her mother Dorothea Carey and siblings Michael (Judée), Tim (Madeleine), Mary Jo, and John (Karen). Predeceased by her father Thomas Carey, and older sister Brenda.
Clare was a woman of immense energy, enthusiasm, and empathy. After mastering the challenges of being the youngest of 6 kids growing up in an Irish family, she obtained her nursing degree at the University of Ottawa. Clare entered a career where her ability to connect with people and bring a positive can-do attitude to every challenge presented changed the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. Her nursing career led her to cardiac care at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where her obvious talents were identified and rewarded by assuming a key role in coordinating cardiac research trials. Eventually this led to a successful career in the medical devices field, during which she competed to be the best while making everyone around her better. Not content with the challenges of work and successfully raising two active hockey playing girls, she also added an MBA degree to the mix. Clare continued to blend her passion for research and industry in the medical devices field where she continued to work and brighten everyone’s day until shortly before her passing.
In life, Clare was a true force of nature, and never backed down from any challenge. This is best exemplified in her determination to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro within a year of her initial diagnosis. Among her many accomplishments she also climbed to the base camp of Mt. Everest as well as running several marathons. Clare spent everyday until her last, doing things she loved, such as swimming, cooking, walking, watching the Food Network and Dr. Pol. She made time for everyone in her life in the most selfless way, managing to keep her family first with the ferocious love of a mother, while finding time to make life better for anyone she interacted with.
She will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Heart Institute
.
There will be a celebration of life for friends and family in the near future.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Clare Carey Carey Thursday December 9th 2021..
