Clara Morrison of Sudbury, Ontario passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice on December 4th, 2021. Born in West Apple River, Nova Scotia, on October 16th, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Greta (Orr) Rector. Clara was predeceased by her siblings Marguerite Tabor, Evelyn Casey, Girvan Rector, Clifton Rector, Oscar Rector, and Morley Rector, all from the East Coast of Canada. Clara is survived by her children Lorraine Dupuis, Diane Morrison, and Gregory Morrison; her grandchildren Tacey Horodziejczyk (Stephen) and Jennifer Dupuis, and her great-grandchildren Joel Horodziejczyk and Kyra Horodziejczyk. She will also be greatly missed by her many relatives on the East Coast.
Clara was a war veteran, during which time she met and married Joseph Robert Morrison, with whom she had her 3 children. Mom lived a simple, happy life as a child, and it was the little things in her adult life that made her most happy. She cherished her gift of family and taught us that “family always comes first”. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs, who always seemed to make her laugh and brought much joy to her life. Clara was quick-witted and often displayed a fabulous sense of humour. Clara was the #1 fan for each of her children, always encouraging us to do our best, and always reminding us of how proud she was of each one of us. Walking was one of Mom’s favourite things to do, along with reading for several hours a day. She participated for years in the Terry Fox Walk, and she was 90 years of age (the oldest participant) when she successfully completed her final walk in the annual event.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, homecare workers, and the wonderful staff at the Hospice who cared for Mom in the most wonderful, loving way. At Clara’s request, there will be no funeral visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations to the Sudbury SPCA would be appreciated.
