Obituary of CHRISTOPHER JAMES CADZOW
Christopher James Spencer Cadzow Jr. 08 October 1928 – 09 November 2021
It is with very sad, heavy hearts that on Nov 9th dad re-joined the love of his life Sonia (Sunny). A loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and special friend to many.
Every minute with dad was cherished by his loving daughter Jaye and Rick who was a son to him. Left to cherish many wonderful memories along with Jaye and Rick are his precious cat Charlie, granddaughter Quynn and his little great granddaughter Paisley who could light up his day, son Robin (Annette, Chelsea and family), his best friend and sister Pat Lysak (Darren and Kerri and their families), brother George (Brian) and numerous nieces, nephews and very special long-time friends and neighbors. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Sonia (Sunny) nee Mosienko, and parents Christopher (Sr) and Elizabeth.
As a youngster dad attended Ralph Brown, Machray and St Johns High School. Dad was a veteran, joining the Winnipeg Light Infantry in 1939. The war ended in May of 1945 just before he was to be sent overseas. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 215 for 38 years. The Legion was a gathering place for dad to enjoy a breakfast, lunch or dinner with many special friends over the years.
Dad was an avid soccer player, playing with the Luxton Royals and was proudly selected to play on an all-star squad against professional team Tottenham Hotspurs FC. After playing for many years, dad began to coach an adult soccer team where he was an inspiration to them all, both young and old. Dad enjoyed all sports and continued to bowl, curl and golf in to his 80’s.
At the age of 17 dad started working at CN and retired after 40 years of service. In retirement, dad and mom purchased their sanctuary, a cottage on the water in Lac du Bonnet. They loved the cottage and hosted many gatherings with family and friends. Dad was very proud of both his home in East St Paul and their cottage.
Dad and mom both enjoyed a good gathering – be it parties at the East St Paul Community Club, at Legion 215, basement parties, lake parties or with family. They enjoyed traveling…to visit friends in Lake Placid, FL., with neighbors to the Bahama’s, and dad especially enjoyed fishing trips with Rick and the Rebeck family, which always ended with a doozy of a story.
Many family and friends describe Dad as the kindest person they know, and he was. He loved being around people and every minute we had with Dad is so dear to our hearts and will stay with us forever.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Dad’s love for animals, please make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice.
As per Dad’s wishes and respecting these wishes, there will be no formal service. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Dad, your love for nature keeps you near to us. Your loving cat provides your gentle touch, when the birds sing, we will hear your voice, and the water in the lake will always show your reflection and you will be with us…always.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of CHRISTOPHER
