Passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Christopher Jude Roche of Torbay at the age of 53.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend as the result of a degenerative neurological disease. Chris is predeceased by his father Matthew; cousins: Janet and Kasey Allen, Bryan Allen, and Rosemary Gosse Poles; aunts and uncles: Josephine and Philip Field, Ronnie Manning, Harry Lacey, Dave Gosse, Marie Gosse, Bernard and Patricia Gosse.
We will remember Chris as a hardworking, social, kind man with an intelligent sense of humour. He leaves, with fond memories, his mother Bridie Roche; brother John Roche and sister-in-law Jo-anne Nelson; sister Mary and brother-in-law Barry Snow; sister Anita; his nephews and nieces, whom he adored: Jesse (Emily) and baby Gwen, Sarah (Landon), Mitchell (Alexandria) and Jennifer (Amnesty); aunts: Patricia Lacey, Helen Manning and Shirley Gosse; cousins: Susan (Chris’ rock, our rock), Jacob and Peggy Manning; his best friend Brian (Dawn) McGrath (there are no words to describe what an amazing friend Brian has been to Chris); his cousins: Robert (Williamina), Randy (Nancy), Charles (Rhonda), Joe (Karen), Betty Ann, Madonna, Marie, Colleen, Ed (Debbie), John, Margie (Bill), David (Susan), Joe (Anne), Janet (Larry), Tyrone (Vicki), Bobby (Agatha) and Charlie (Mary); many other relatives and close friends.
Educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Centre of Geographic Sciences (Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia), Chris enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Geographic Information System specialist in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Chris cherished the strong friendships he formed through school, work, curling and golf. He loved camping with friends. Chris will be missed by his dog, Bella, his constant and loyal companion.
Like so many Newfoundlanders living away, Chris used his vacation time to come “home” each year for Christmas, Easter, a few weeks each summer and a long weekend here and there. He enjoyed spending time with family and lifelong friends every time he visited. For the more than 25 years that he lived away, he kept his mother up to date with a phone call every Sunday. He will be forever missed at our supper tables, parties, celebrations and card games.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay, on Sunday, May 30th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. By request, there will be no funeral. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 19th, Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bauline Line, Torbay.
Feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice or, as Chris liked to leave generous gratuities at restaurants (including fast food), you may honour him by doing the same.
When I come to the end of my journey,
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned,
And remember only the smile.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Christopher Roche 2021..
