Charles Spittlehouse Saturday September 4th 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Chuck Spittlehouse on September 4, 2021 at Hogarth Riverview Manor after a short illness. He was born on March 22, 1928 in Fort William Ontario and was the only child of Joseph and Mary Spittlehouse.
After graduating high school dad’s career began in the Insurance business. His first job was joining the family business at Thunder Bay Insurance Company, then going on to start a new company, Hubie, Spittlehouse and Lingman Ltd. He then decided that working as an insurance salesman was not what he wanted to do and headed out into the forest. He started up his own logging business called River Lake Timber Ltd. Which he operated until his retirement.
When Chuck and Jean retired, they began their new adventure on the Great Lakes. They enjoyed boating and making many new friends while out on their boat Charlies Pride 1, 2, 3 or 4.. These friendships have continued on throughout the years.
Entertaining was also very important to both of them and their annual Chinese Dinner Party was always enjoyed by their many friends and family. Another annual event held by them was Boxing Day Brunch which was always a large family gathering held at their beautiful home on the lake.
During the early years, dad was very involved with his children’s sports. He was always busy driving them out to the ski hills or to early morning swim practices at the local YMCA. All four of his children were in competitive swimming so he decided to take up coaching to help out. He also enjoyed assisting in any way with the children’s water ski shows out at Shebandowan Lake. Dad was always there if we needed help with boats, ropes and water skis.
He then became the best grampa ever attending his grandchildren’s hockey games, basketball, volleyball and soccer games, cheering louder than most parents. He was so well liked and had such a positive effect that if he ever missed a game, players from both teams would ask where’s Grampa, is he ok.
Chuck also enjoyed volunteering during his new spare time. You could always find him in the kitchen at the Legion Branch 5 fish dinners on Friday nights. He also enjoyed visiting other Legion members who were in hospital or nursing homes with his little dog Maggie.
Some of our best memories, as young kids are the many wonderful years, we spent at camp out at Shebandowan which dad built with his father. It remains in our family and is enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Dad and Jeanne where so happy get out to the camp this summer.
Chuck is survived by his wife Jeanne, son Jeff Spittlehouse, daughters Janet (Mark) Middaugh, Dale (Tony) DiCasmirro and Valerie Pankhurst. Grandchildren Dana (Darren) Toneguzzi, Jamie (Joseph) Zanni, Kelsey (Craig) Barclay, Lindsay and Shawn Middaugh, Katie and Kyle Spittlehouse, Nicholas, Robert and Gordon Pankhurst. Great Grandchildren, Joseph, Adeline, Elloise, Eleanor, Bennett and Cooper Sister in-law Mary Ellen Bowley. Jeanne’s children Randy Munn, Jennifer Drew, Maureen Deas and Lori White, also many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
