It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Carol Ann Goretzky on December 25, 2021, at the age of 76, with her devoted husband, Dan, and son Quinn at her side.
The family was central to Carol’s life and she was more than a wife to Dan (her husband of more than 53 years). She constantly supported him in all of his endeavors. She was a firm believer that education would lead to greater opportunities for her children and strongly encouraged as well as supported her sons’ educational pursuits. Carol greatly loved and cherished the family that she and Dan built.
Carol is survived by her husband Dan; three sons Quinn (Krista), Kern (Lisa), and Jared (Monica); seven grandchildren Callia, Seth, Fintan, Zoya, Ela, Jiya, and Indran; and her sister Lois Friesen and brothers Don, Ken, and Doug Paisley.
She was predeceased by her Aunt Nell and Uncle Jim Jack; grandson Zachary Goretzky, sister Norma Katterhagen and Norma’s husband Gordon; her brothers Reg and Terry; cousin Don Jack, her brothers-in-law Jake Friesen and David (Marlene) Goretzky.
Carol was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, and was raised by her Aunt Nell and Uncle Jim Jack in Regina, Saskatchewan. Carol graduated from Balfour High School, then completed a year of teacher’s college in Regina. Carol worked as a teacher in the three western provinces throughout her professional career. With a commitment to lifelong learning, she completed her Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1993, while still working full time and raising a family.
Carol met Dan in Regina, Saskatchewan. They were married in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1967. They lived in Victoria, Edmonton, Prince Alberta, and for the last 35 years in St. Albert. They shared a passion for traveling extensively through Canada, Europe, and the United States to connect with friends and relatives, while taking in as many cultural and historical locations as possible. They found great enjoyment in watching their grandchildren play, grow and find their own achievements in life.
Throughout her life, Carol expressed her passions through several artistic endeavors, including sewing, pottery, painting, and cooking. She was a deft seamstress, often making outfits for her young sons. She also excelled in art, enjoying various mediums exhibited within the communities of St. Albert and Edmonton. Her family was delighted by her adventurousness in the kitchen which they enjoyed at family dinners large and small.
The family would like to thank all those to help care for Carol over the past two years; Dr. Anil Joy, Dr. Doug, MacIver, the home care staff, and the nurses at the Edmonton General Mel Miller Hospice.
A Funeral Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Connelly-McKinley is exclusively participating in the Restriction Exemption Program. Government issued photo ID and proof of vaccination via QR code or a negative COVID test in the last 72 hours is required upon entry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.
