Obituary for Beverly James Ashfield
September 21, 1930 – December 27, 2021
In his 92ndyear Beverly James (Jim) passed away with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Joyce Ellen Ashfield (Whiteway) for over 67 years. Father to Susan, David (Val), Janet (Richard), Steven. Beloved grandfather of Matthew and Simon (Imogen) Poole, Zach (Miranda) and Josh Ashfield and Elizabeth (Matt) Ashfield. Great grandfather of Alberta, Lillian and Roseabelle.
He was a teacher for the Scarborough Board of Education and taught many subjects; but his favourite was Industrial Arts. He also trained teachers at the Ontario College of Education during the summers. In his retirement he taught carving at the local Community Centre.
He loved building things, the cottage at Kennisis Lake, ham radio, carving, bridge, investing and most of all his family. In addition, he enjoyed making (and drinking) wine for which he regularly won awards.
He was a generous man who instilled a work ethic and spent many summers doing large projects with his family including building a boathouse, a boat ramp, a pier and a cold room, to name a few. He was known as the proprietor of the Kennisis Lake hardware store where if you needed something, he likely had it in the boathouse and would share his hardware, knowledge and tools.
He is loved and will be missed! A private family wake will celebrate Jim’s life at a later date.
For those wishing to make a donation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
