It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bette Anne Blais, age 83, of Sudbury, Ontario on October 27, 2021. She passed away peacefully at Sudbury Maison McCullough Hospice with her partner of 55 years, Dale Willett, by her side. She is survived by her sister, Connie Lariviere (Roger) of Val-d’Or, Quebec, her daughters LeeAnne Hodge Johnson (Al) of Smithers, BC, and Janice Hodge (Karin) of Coldstream, BC, her grandchildren Tyler Johnson (Laurissa) of Smithers, BC and Gordie Johnson of Prince Rupert, BC, her nieces Lynne Valade (Louis) of Val-d’Or Quebec, Barbara Boily (Jean) of Malartic, Quebec, Natalie Boily (Andre) of Val-d’Or, Quebec, and Stephanie Lariviere (Art) of Toronto, Ontario. She is predeceased by her brother Allan Blais of Malartic, Quebec, and her eldest niece Joanne Boily of Val-d’Or Quebec.
Bette Anne was born on May 11, 1938, in Malartic, Quebec to Ted and Helen Blais. She grew up in Val-d’Or, Quebec and moved to Timmins, Ontario with Dale, but eventually settled at Rockview Towers in Sudbury, Ontario where they have lived happily for over 40 years.
Bette Anne had a vibrant personality and lived her life with zest doing all the things she loved to do which included cooking, playing cards, reading, and watching tennis, figure skating, and baseball. She cherished her time with her grandsons, and particularly liked playing games, telling jokes, and laughing with them. Her fashion was uniquely Bette Anne with a flair for colorful clothing and equally colorful jewellery. She relished in her fashion and was always the best dressed person at a function. She was loved by all that knew her as her quick wit (sometimes inappropriate), and flashy outfits brought color and laughter to any room. Her domain was her kitchen where she spent countless hours looking thru her personal recipe collection and cooking amazing food for family and friends. She loved to share her favorite recipes and delighted in itemizing each ingredient over the phone to whomever was on the other end. She was friendly to all and had a story or two or three to tell about friendly exchanges after a bus ride, plane ride, or trip to the grocery store or pharmacy. No event was uneventful if Bette Anne was involved. She was a great storyteller as she had an amazing memory with an ability to recount stories from her youth in great detail, down to the clothes she was wearing or the food she ordered at a restaurant. She truly was one of a kind. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her, but we will find comfort in the many wonderful memories we all have of her.
The family would like to thank everyone who has been so generous and supportive, including the staff of community health services. Your kindness helped ease the sadness and lift her spirits during these difficult times. In addition, the family is forever grateful for Maison McCulloch Hospice and their caring staff and nurses.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, Ontario. A celebration of life will be a held with specifics to be determined at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
