Obituary of Bernardus (Ben) Van Es
Van Es – Bernardus Johannes (Ben) of Port Colborne passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the age of 90 years. Loving husband of Mieke (Wilhelmina) for 64 years, loving father of Anja (Bob) Alcott, Grace Garner, Jerry (Rachel) Van Es, Diana (Terry) Van Es, Sonja (Doug) Jones, dear grandfather of Jeff (Dana), Susie, Melissa, Tammy, Christina, Stacey (Joe), Brooke, Alicia and Patrice, great grandchildren Kaleb, Landon, Annabelle, Jaxson, Ben, Olivia, Zachary and Nicholas, brother of Joke Teunissen and Thijm Van Es. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anthonius and Dina Van Es, his siblings Dries, Jo, Fre, Toon and Dina. Born in Renkum, The Netherlands, he came to Port Colborne in 1959. Ben worked at the Robin Hood for 32 years from where he retired. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Port Colborne- Our Lady of Fatima, Council 3732 and the Port Colborne Horticultural Society. Ben’s passions included: soccer, music, dancing, card playing, gardening The Toronto Maple Leafs and most of all his family. Ben will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. A special thank you to the nursing staff, the dietary staff and the housekeeping staff of the Port Colborne General Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family funeral service will be held at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. To view funeral service, click on Funeral Webcast tab on Ben’s condolence page. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and Rite of Committal in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery when it is safe to do so. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Port Colborne-Wainfleet Community Living, the Alzheimer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
