It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Berna Pearl Anderson Bongard at PECM
Hospital with her family by her side on Sunday September 12, 2021, in her 94th year. Berna has been
cremated at her request. A celebration of life will be held at Cherry Valley Cemetery on Monday October
4th at 2 pm where she will be interred with her late husband Verne. Physical distancing will be observed
and face coverings are required.
Survived by her loving daughters Anne VanVlack (Bill), Joan Bongard (Ken), Linda Bongard (Michael), and
Karen Bongard, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Verne
Bongard, her parents Curtis and Gertrude Anderson, and 6 siblings.
A retired teacher in Prince Edward County, Berna enjoyed all social activities, especially those with the
South Bay Boating Club, the County Whirlers (square dancing) and PE Yacht Club. She was an avid reader
and a competitive bridge player and enjoyed lively political discussions. At Wellings of Picton, where she
lived since 2016, Berna helped to organize the library and the bingo games. Blue Jays baseball was a
passion and she was hoping that they would reach the playoffs this year.
If desired, memorial donations in Berna’s memory can be made to the PECMH Back the Build Campaign.
