It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Beatriz on June 13, 2021 to join her beloved husband Conrado, her son Rodolfo, and her parents and siblings in heaven. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Lito, children, Domingo, Conrad, Margarita, Yolanda, Marlon and Martha; sons and daughters-in-law; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beatriz went by the nickname of Betty or Nanay Betty and was fondly called “Lolaik” by some of her grandchildren. She was outgoing and she made the effort to make everyone feel welcome even if the conversation begins with “Sorry, you understand me? My English not so good”. She took pride in her children and did everything for them. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook. She loved feeding everyone and watching people enjoy her cooking. She loved to sew and she made outfits for her kids when they were younger. She was enterprising. She invented “side hustle” before it was a thing. Back in the Philippines, she and her husband had to support seven children on a very tight budget. She cooked food to sell in front of the house to make extra money and she offered her cooking services to neighbors and all she wanted in return was for her children to be fed that day. She asked friends and neighbors what they needed so she could source and resell them for a small profit. She did all she can to contribute to the family’s finances while raising seven children at home. After migrating to Canada in 1988, she secured a job at a garment factory inspecting and cleaning finished products. She took pride in that job and established lifelong friendships. She appreciated everything that she had because she knew how to survive with nothing but her family and the clothes on her back. She was a friend to everyone and continues to spread positivity even though things may not be going great for herself. She was religious and loved God and all that was good.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Cathedrale Manor for making her feel welcome and safe. They also want to thank all of her friends who treated her with love and respect. It is unfortunate that we are unable to have a big gathering to celebrate her and the amazing life she lived. But as she would always say with a smile , “you can’t have everything, there’s always something (missing)”. Rest In Peace Nanay.
