Obituary of Baxter Leonard Cameron
CAMERON, Baxter L.
Baxter Leonard Cameron passed away suddenly at home on September 10, 2021 after a brief illness. Baxter was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Cameron of Trenton. He was born at his parent’s home in Trenton on December 5, 1938. Baxter worked in the grocery business with his father for many years before going to work for Michelin, and was also a member of the Michelin Emergency Response Team. He retired from Michelin in 1994. Retirement became an open road. Road trips were the order of the day often turning into an adventure. These excursions, shared with his long time companion Marie, gave him great enjoyment. Baxter was a member of Trenton United Church and a Member of Session in the early 70’s. He was a former member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders Reserve in the 1960’s, a member of the Thistle Pistol Club in the early 60’s, a member of the Pictou County Military Rifle Association, and Secretary of the West Pictou Wildlife Association for many years. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid target shooter. He also enjoyed helping to organize local guns shows. Baxter is survived by his long time companion, Marie Dorey, Pictou; sons, James (Pam) Cameron, Trenton; Rick Cameron, Ontario; daughters, Susan (Victor) Francoeur, Alberta; Tanya Cameron, Halifax; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lindsay (Chris) Hurley, Trenton and their children, Fionn, Aevalyn, and Ayla; Charles Cameron, Trenton; Crystal (Andrew) Doiron, Ontario, and their children, Riley, Jayson, and Liam; Alan (Tonya) Cameron, New Brunswick and their children, Lincoln and Josie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cameron and many aunts and uncles. As per Baxter’s wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. There will be no visitation. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Seaview Cemetery, Pictou, on Friday, September 17th at 11:00am with Fergie MacKay officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to The United Church, Trenton, or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Marie, Sandra and Wayne Anderson, Colleen and John Heighton, the RCMP, Paramedics, as well as McLaren Funeral Home.
