It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister. Barbara passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday, July 10th after a valiant struggle from her open heart surgery. She never regained consciousness and left us quietly, pain free and in a dignified manner, just as she would have wanted. Her deeply held religious beliefs would have given her great strength during this time.
Predeceased by her father William (Bill) Nicol. She is survived by her mother Kathleen, loving husband John, son Tyler (Jacquelyn) and the light of her life, her grandchildren Emily and Carter. Grieving with us are her sister Michele (Phil), extended family and many long time friends and colleagues. We take heartfelt comfort in all of the love and support shown to Barbara and her family over these final difficult and emotional weeks.
Barbara was born and raised in Vancouver and after graduating from UBC began a wonderful teaching career with the Coquitlam School board. After retiring in 2006, she and John loved to travel the world, particularly cruising. Entertaining with family and friends was her greatest joy. Everyone loved her dinner parties and summer barbeques. We will all miss her devotion, compassion and kindness.
In lieu of flowers and as per Barbara’s wishes, a donation in her name could be made to either the Terry Fox Foundation or Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation and would be greatly appreciated.
