HOROWITZ, Barbara – Married to Carl from 1952 until his death in 2014. Mother of Larry, Allan and Danny. Grandmother of Joshua, Jennifer, Jordan, Jake, Eli and Shira. Great grandmother to Emma, Ethan, Georgia, and Blake. Daughter of Lillian and David Greenstein. Sister of Thelma and Beverly. Graduated from University of Toronto Physical and Health Education in 1952 and married Carl. They moved to Port Credit and she worked day and night with him while he ran Carl’s Pharmacy. Larry was born in 1954. Then Allan in 1957 and Danny in 1960. She would work in the store and keep an eye on the babies in their carriage outside the store. She moved to Toronto to be closer to family. She taught school for a while but still worked every Saturday at the drugstore. She volunteered for many years at York Central Hospital. She and Carl went to clown school and then entertained for many years at various charity events. Her real job was being a good mother and wife and she excelled at both. She played tennis and badminton and was an avid swimmer. She went to the Y almost every day. She played ping pong until a couple of months ago. Her philosophy was always that exercise is good for the mind and body and no matter what was wrong with you exercise would help. She could not be beat at scrabble. Partially because of the sharpness of her mind and her extensive vocabulary and partially because she would invent 2 letter words and insist they were real words acceptable according to scrabble rules. She was usually correct. She was brutally honest and always told it like it was. Her memory was phenomenal. She always had to know what direction she was facing. If you were late by 1 minute you would get a phone call. If her restaurant food wasn’t to her liking it would get sent back. And it was rarely to her liking. She was a poor tipper unless the service was absolutely perfect, and it was obviously never perfect. She would swear when swearing was called for. She was strong and independent. She was a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and person and will be missed by everyone that knew her. She lived a fun, healthy, full life, and when she knew it wasn’t going to be good anymore she left in a hurry. That was her style. And good for her.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Barbara Horowitz Sunday June 13 2021..
