June 1, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Bahliby Ghebrehiwet, beloved husband of Yodit Ghebrehiwet (nee Haile) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the age of 65 years.
Bahliby was born in Asmara, Eritrea on August 28, 1955.
After serving his country for a few years, he left Eritrea in the 70s and lived and worked in several countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa, he immigrated to Canada in 1983.
Bahliby married Yodit Debessai Haile on May 19, 1990.
Bahliby graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) as a Journeyman Welder and Pipefitter in 1993.
He was a member of the Eritrean Canadian Community Association of Calgary and a founding chairman of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo St. Michael Church.
Though Bahliby had a remarkable life full of hardships and challenges, he will be most remembered for his infectious optimism, positive attitude, and incredible will to live.
Besides his loving wife of 31 years Yodit, Bahliby is survived by his daughter and son, Senait and Noel Bahliby, his brother in Eritrea, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, 235 8 St NE, Calgary, AB on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:00a.m. A Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
The family would like to express their most heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and staff that cared for Bahliby for so many years.
