Obituary of Audrey Winnifred Titus
The family is sad to announce the passing on June 1, 2021, of our mother, Audrey Winnifred Titus, who was affectionately known as “Booie,” a childhood nickname that stuck with her throughout her life. Born in Digby and grew up in Whale Cove on Digby Neck, she married our father, Carlson Titus, in 1949 and moved to Centreville. For more than 50 years she operated a general store as breadwinner for four children and an ailing husband, who passed when the youngest boy was only 2.5 years old.
Booie was always available whenever the boats wanted to “grub up” and her store was a gathering place for the community. There are many who will recall her generosity in putting groceries or rubber boots etc. “on tick” until the boats settled up or the government cheques came in. Mom loved what she did and took pride in her small business.
She made many friends at Wilson’s Bowling Alley where she played in the leagues for several years. Mom was a very competitive bowler who had a lot of fun and proudly displayed every bowling trophy.
She is survived by daughter Sherry (Sidney) Longmire; sons Gerry Titus (Betty Presseau) and Tony Titus (Julie Burns); sisters Marjorie Theriault and Shirley Raymond; brother Lauristan (Dorothy) Tidd; sister-in-law Laura Tidd; daughter-in-law Jackie Titus-Smith; grandchildren Lee, Luke, Joelene, Ryan, Karley and Taylor; great-grandchildren Noah, Maddie, Judah, Taliah, Sawyer, and Xander.
Booie was predeceased by her husband, Carlson Titus; son Bobby Titus; parents Alton and Lola Tidd; brothers Bradford and Roy (Dickie) Tidd.
A special note of thanks to the caregivers at Digby-Clare Home Support who helped mom to remain in her home until this past December and the staff at Tideview Terrace who made her last months comfortable and enjoyable.
There will be a private graveside service in the Union Cemetery, Lake Midway, next to Carl and Bobby, at a later date. Family Flowers only.
