Death Notice
GLEED, Audrey Dorothy – Born November 4, 1930 in London Ontario. Died peacefully, surrounded by her children, April 8, 2021 in her 91st year, at Country Manor Estates, Thedford ON, her home for the last two years.
Predeceased by her husband, Keith Nelson Gleed (2000). Audrey will be missed by her children Dianne DeCaluwe (Tony), Rick Gleed (Megan), Sue VandeVreede (John); grandchildren Jay (Lisa), Chantal (Mike), Jess (Kevin), Josh (Katie), Brad (Christine), Mike (Tracey) and Maggie; great-grandchildren Jaryn, Brady, Matteo, Holly, Carter, Jack, Keegan, Dutch, Jorja, Bryar, Matlida, Wesley and her sister, Cherie Cavanagh.
Audrey grew up in London Ontario and married Keith in 1946. Proudly independent as a young mother, Audrey worked outside the home, at Super Silk and Northern Telecom before becoming a Real Estate agent in 1972. Spanning a career in Real Estate for 27 years, Audrey worked for a number of Brokerages and had her own Brokerage until 1992.
Audrey believed in healthy living, maintaining her gym membership into her 80’s. She was an avid and eclectic reader and her home was filled with volumes of Shakespeare, math textbooks and recipe books. She was an early adopter of computers and continued to work on the family’s bookkeeping until the partial loss of her eyesight. She volunteered at Orchestra London and The Grand Theatre for many years and enjoyed good music and theatre. Audrey disliked having her photo taken (much to the disappointment of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and loved to travel with her last European holiday in Italy, which she took as a solo traveller.
The family is tremendously grateful to the Country Manor in Thedford for their kind and compassionate care. The family is also grateful for the friendship she cultivated with Dave Jones at the Manor during their evening Jeopardy viewing.
Due to pandemic restrictions a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions to CNIB or Joan’s Place (Youth Opportunities Unlimited) will be gratefully accepted.
