It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our sweet and beautiful mother at home with family. Born in Friesland (Netherlands), she followed in the footsteps of one of her sisters (Itske) and immigrated to Canada in 1952, leaving behind her parents and remaining 15 siblings. Loving mother to Dennis, Andy (Debbie), Shirley Hoto (George), Harvey (Deb) and Paul (Wendy). Gramma to 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also leaving behind 2 brothers, 7 sisters and countless nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sons Charles and Richard, grandson Jeffery, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Her life revolved around raising a family, keeping a home and helping with the many chores on the farm. Whether it was feeding the animals, cleaning up or slugging bales of hay, she never backed down from hard work. Later in life, she joined the workforce at Grandview Lodge, where she made many friends with staff and residents alike. Mom had a great love for dancing, always looking for a place to go and dance the night away. Another passion of hers was wrestling, she enjoyed watching a good match and cheering for her favourites. She was blessed with good friends. When they got together the laughter followed. Gladys, Pat, Gail, Janice and Dee, you were so good to mom with your many phone calls and visits to the very end. She loved each one of you dearly. The family would like to thank the nursing team, Jolene, Ashley, Carmel and Sherri for your daily checks, PSWs Jodi and Joyce and Dr. Blake for your home visits, keeping mom comfortable at home. Many hands made it possible and for that, we are grateful. As per mom’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no service or visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Minor Funeral Home, 315 Broad Street East, Dunnville 905-774-7277. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Grandview Lodge (GVL) would be appreciated by the family. Friends are invited to send condolences and sign the Book of Memories at www.ballardminorfh.ca.
