Athena Tsakona 19272021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Athena Tsakona, on July 22, 2021, at the age of 94.
A heroine that immigrated to Canada in 1949, Athena was the first of many to leave Greece in order to escape hardship and famine. She soon proceeded to help bring her family and her husband’s family to her new home of peace and prosperity.
Η Αθήνα, η πρώτη!
She was, and always will be # 1!
She was a heroine and a fighter to the end! We will forever treasure her memories and laughter! She has earned her wings. It’s time for peace and love amongst her beloved family, in God’s arms in paradise.
Her selfless heart and soul will live for eternity! Love and memory eternal!
Fly Athena!
Cherished mother of Artemis Hionis, Peggy Thanopoulos and Jessie Hionis. She profoundly treasured her grandson George Lazaridis who is left with an emptiness in her absence. She will also be deeply missed by her other grandson, Alexander, her sisters, nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 5pm to 9pm at Complexe Yves Légaré, 1350 Desserte Ouest Chomedey, Laval QC H7X 4B5, Canada.

Sympathies message

  1. Athena was like an angel in human form that had a great impact in many people’s lives. Her “Can Do Attitude,” work ethic, leadership and philanthropy were what made her so selfless and self sufficient.

She always helped those in need, helping them in any and all ways she could. Her life stories were worthy of admiration and pride. Other family members would talk about Athena’s fearless attitude; like when she took the initiative to visit the Queen and asked her to pardon our uncle’s life. A little shepherd girl convinced the Queen of Greece. That same girl, from Leka, Samos, came to Canada all by herself to leave the perils of WWII behind; worked hard, saved her money and brought the rest of her family to a better life. Acts of her courage and strength were what Athena was about!

Her sense of humor, smile laughter and her expressive eyes will remain in our memory forever. In spite of all her hardships, she had a zest for life and a heart big enough to love everyone. She sang and danced beautifully.

    Everyone loved Athenoula.

We will forever and ever be grateful to Athena for her love, kindness, and generosity. She loved every member of her family unconditionally, and her grandson was her pride and joy!

She deprived herself so give to others. Athena was selfless, loving and giving, always giving of herself.

Her life story is the greatest legacy of love, faith, dedication and commitment. Her life touched and empowered all who knew her.

Through her determination, sacrifice and fearless courage, she alone changed the trajectory of so many peoples’ lives. A heroine is what describes her best! Thank you Athenoula for illuminating our hearts!

She will always live forever in our hearts; and her memories will be treasured till the end of time.
God gave her the strength to make us who we are today! We will find comfort and solace by remembering all her acts of love, kindness and courage. There will never, ever be another Athena. She was one of a kind. She was the best! We were blessed to be touched by her. Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη, forever in my heart.

    Kalo Paradiso Athenoula
We will love and remember you forever!
